So it’s been exactly 2 weeks ago tonight that I had the most fun hunting experience with Macgregor Outfitting, in Alberta Canada, Chasing big black bears. Jonah and Tim put me in a stand that they have been seeing a giant 400+ pound bear ( they named Elvis). After sitting most the evening and seeing a couple really nice bears through the trees I got a glimpse of a monster black bear, it ran off chasing other bears and to my lucky fortune a couple minutes later it came walking right straight to me and gave me a broadside shot, and I took full advantage and made a great shot with my bow, despite my nerves, and Elvis was dead. I have never been more excited hunting in my life! What an Experience!
The day before that I had shot a really nice 300 pound black bear, so in two nights I was tagged out and if that was the whole experience, it would’ve been great, but the whole experience with MacGregor outfitting was first class from the owners Jonah, Kersten and Bowen to the guides Tim - Rod - Austin - Mark. To Missy’s cookies. Just wonderful people, so accommodating and friendly, with fun personalities! The food and accommodations were great! A trip of a lifetime!

It has been a bucket list item of mine to go on an archery black bear hunt in Alberta for over 20 years now. I never thought it would happen until a good friend of mine said he had found the right place to go. He introduced me to Macgregor outfitting, and I soon had my deposit sent in. I had a lot of anxiety going into this hunt not knowing what to expect, and if I would be able to shoot my dream bear, being a chocolate colored “Red bear”. The first evening out hunting was incredible as I had 8 different bears come in and I was able to make a good shot on a black colored bear. Jonah and my guide Austin knew I wanted a chocolate colored “Red Bear”, so they told me if I could be patient the rest of the hunt I may have a shot at a big chocolate colored bear they knew about that would pay an occasional visit to one of the stand locations. After seeing several smaller bears for the next 5 nights, the opportunity came with about an hour left on my hunt. I was able to execute the perfect shot, and my dream of shooting a big chocolate “Red Bear” was complete.
The hunting was amazing, but what I was most impressed with was the whole staff at Macgregor outfitting. Every single one of them worked to make my hunt the best ever. A true family/friend setting. They did everything they could to make this the best experience ever. I have hunted with other outfitters and guides, but I have never had the whole package like I did with Jonah and his staff at Macgregor Outfitting. I will be back hopefully sooner than later.

Jonah and his crew are some of the hardest working folks I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. They pay attention to every detail to make your experience the best it can possibly be. His guides are pros, his accommodations are first rate, and the food is outstanding. But what stands out the most to me is the quality of the people he has chosen to help him produce these hunts. They are all very welcoming and I count them among my most valued friends.
The hunting is unbelievable. I’ve seen more bears in a few days with them than I’ve seen in a lifetime in Wyoming. Not just bears, BIG bears. The crew obviously works incredibly hard well before the season starts to locate so many trophy quality bears, and they follow that up with well executed plans to provide hunters every possible opportunity to harvest animals anybody would be excited about.

The Black Bear hunt in 2023 was my first paid hunt/guiding experience, and I certainly was not disappointed. Jonah and his guides, Rod, Mark, and Austin, were awesome! I enjoyed my Canadian experience and have remained in contact, as I would love to return. The quality of the bears was impressive, and Jonah and the crew provided me the opportunity to shoot a trophy cinnamon phase, Black bear; I could not have been happier. The opportunity to sit in Canadian wilderness in complete solitude is calming for the soul and an escape from the reality of a busier life. The quality of the hunt was exactly what I desired and matched by truly quality people. The food & lodging were top-notch, and the conversations were memorable. The harvest of my first black bear with MacGregor Outfitting was a bucket list occasion that I will share forever. I look forward to returning for an opportunity to harvest a true Alberta giant Black Bear from the deep bush of Canadian Wilderness. I would not hesitate to recommend Jonah for anyone looking for their first bear or someone pursuing a record-book animal. You may harvest a trophy, but you will certainly gain some wonderful friends."

Jonah and his team go above and beyond to ensure that you have a tremendous experience and a successful hunt. I have yet to meet an outfitter with more down to earth, easy-going people. Jonah and his guides are passionate, knowledgeable and no short cuts are ever taken. I was amazed by the number of bears seen during the hunt and the hospitality back at the lodge is first class. It is evident that they have put in the work at the sites and stands well in advance of your arrival. Once your bear is harvested, great care is taken of the hide to ensure a trophy that lasts a lifetime. WE had an absolutely an amazing trip with MacGregor Outfitting. Guides were top notch and food was amazing everyday! Jonah the owner makes you feel right at home and runs a second to none operation. We seen multiple bears everyday, it was truly an awesome experience. We felt very well taken care of and I would not hesitate to recommend MacGregor Outfitting to anyone. We will be back soon!
